59 Chinese Mobile Apps Banned in India; Here Are Others to Replace Them

Published

By

The Indian GovernmentGovernment has banned 59 Chines apps stating that they pose a threat to the ‘sovereignty and security’ of the Indian system. Some significant and most-used apps like Tik Tok, WeChat, UC Browser, Helo, Club Factory, ShareIT are out of use now. Following the rising tension between the boundaries of India and China, the Indian Government has taken this decision.

They have been banned under the Section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009, as the officials feel these apps are engaged in activities, ‘prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order.’

An official confirmed that this decision was taken after analyzing all aspects well. He said that these apps have some security and privacy issues that could lead to our data being stolen out of the country. A statement from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has received many complaints about the users’ information being hacked and misused. The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) has also received many such complaints from users, besides bipartisan concerns, flagged by various public representatives, both outside and inside the Parliament of India.

Many Indian apps are happy with the ban and are welcoming it. They support the decision of the GovernmentGovernment and promise to lend a helping hand.

InMobi said it could expand its platform now. It is the owner of Roposo, a rival of Tik Tok. ShareChat welcomed the Government’sGovernment’s initiative. It is an Indian Social media.

The co-founder and CEO of Bolo Indya, a rival of the Tik Tok, Varun Saxena, welcomed the decision saying that this will widen the opportunities for Indian apps to expand their scope, all the while keeping in mind the Indian culture and data security at the highest priority.

If this is going to be the situation, either the Indian apps will replace or the American apps will. Also, some apps may take an idea from the engineering of Chinese apps. Still, it will lead to an overall slowdown of the ecosystem’s ingenuity anyway, says Deepak Gupta, founding partner at WEH Ventures, which has invested in Indian video blogging platform Trell.
